Triple 'E' Asthma Challenge - For Children 7 - 12 years

Soroptimist International

Triple 'E' is an exciting project which brings together children with and without asthma to build friendships while enjoying Education, Exercise and Entertainment. Each day these fun-filled events combine dynamic recreation activities with an asthma education session. Children with asthma can bring along friends, brothers or sisters who do not have asthma, but would also benefit from general asthma knowledge, including asthma first-aid. Triple 'E' is an avenue to better asthma control and a meeting place for friends, which was previously provided through Soroptimist Asthma Camp and Woodside AsthmaSwim.

Program Structure
Triple 'E' is a non-residential event which runs over two days in the school holidays. Children are grouped according to age and each day the groups move around a tabloid format of activity stations. Activities change for each event and could include inflatable rides, sports clinics, an art workshop, circus tricks, novelty interactive experiences and more.

Education
Triple 'E' creates a relaxed and safe environment for children to learn about all aspects of asthma from medical professionals and asthma educators, and children can ask questions and learn about achieving good asthma control. Asthma myths are addressed and children without asthma learn about the devices their siblings and friends use and how to help in an asthma first-aid situation.

Consideration of Asthma Triggers
To avoid the risk of allergic reactions children take their own food and drinks to Triple 'E'. Water and fruit are provided. Group leaders are made aware of children with exercise-induced asthma, which features as an education topic. All activities are held inside the venue.

Entertainment
At the end of each day the children come together to sit back, relax and enjoy the antics of performers which could include a magician, science experiments, a dance group and more.

Staff
Children are fully supervised by a group of volunteers and Foundation staff, many who have participated in Soroptimist Asthma Camps and Woodside AsthmaSwim for many years. Each volunteer has a Volunteer National Police Check and a medical team is on-site.

Boy Using SpacerVolunteers
Being a Triple 'E' volunteer is a rewarding experience for adults over 18 years. Volunteers contribute to the empowerment of children while meeting new friends and learning new skills.
