Ask the Educator Sessions
The Asthma Foundation of WA conducts FREE Ask the Educator sessions for people with asthma, and their family, carers or friends.
These sessions provide people with accurate up-to-date information, and the skills and knowledge to effectively manage and control a person's asthma. Education sessions are held regularly throughout the year in West Perth, and in various metropolitan locations. Both evening and daytime sessions are available. Bookings are essential - just follow the links below to book into the location of your choice.
Ask the Educator Topics
- What asthma is
- Common asthma triggers and how to avoid/minimise them
- Differences between medications
- How to take medications correctly
- How to use and clean a spacer correctly
- Peak flow meters and when to use them
- The importance of a written Asthma Action Plan
- How to assess and manage an Asthma First Aid situation
- The Asthma Foundation of WA's products and services
At these sessions, asthma therapy equipment (spacers, peak flow meters etc) is available for purchase and written information is provided.

Individual and Small Group Education
FREE personalised asthma education is available for anyone with asthma, as well as family members and carers. Trained health professionals provide support and up-to-date information during one-to-one and small group sessions. Our aim is to improve self-management by explaining the proper use of medications and devices, avoiding and managing triggers, as well as vital Asthma First Aid. Gaining control of your asthma allows for a happier healthier lifestyle!
You may be referred to this service by your GP or Hospital, or you may book an appointment yourself.

Childcare Centres and Schools
We can provide your child's childcare centre or school with guidelines to assist in providing a safer environment for children with asthma. Our Community Asthma Educators can conduct Asthma First Aid sessions for staff and parents/carers and we can assist the centre or school with strategies to become 'Asthma Friendly'.
Sporting/Recreational Groups and other Community Organisations
Do you belong to a sporting/recreational club or community group? The Asthma Foundation of WA can conduct asthma workshops for your members, staff, coaches or instructors. Information provided in a session includes Exercise-Induced Asthma, how to recognise worsening asthma and how to administer Asthma First Aid.

Workplace Education
Our Community Asthma Educators are available for on-site sessions with staff at your workplace. The sessions are approximately 1 hour in duration and are tailored to suit your needs.
