PUTT PUTT PUTT…ALL THE WAY TO MAURITIUS! Bart Staines was the lucky winner of this year’s Putt Away Asthma campaign and all he had to do is putt a golf ball into a hole.

Bart’s company was one of over 50 workplaces who took part in the corporate putting competition and who enjoyed a Pimms and a canapé at Next Generation in Kings Park on Friday 5th September for the grand putt off.

After winning the putt off, Bart and a friend are off to Mauritius for a week’s holiday staying at the Les Pavillions Resort, thanks to Naiade Resorts.

We would like to thank all of those who took part in this inaugural fundraising initiative. It was a lot of fun and we received really good feedback from both the avid & amateur putters who took place – saying it was a great way to wrap up the week with employees or for a break from the desk.

To register your interest in getting involved in Putt Away Asthma, or any other workplace campaigns in 2009, please call Mark Hullett on 9289 3670, or email mark.hullett@asthmawa.org.au.

Cameron Schwab, President of the Board of the Asthma Foundation of WA and CEO of the Fremantle Football Club, ENJO’s Chief Executive Officer Barb de Corti and the 2007 Telstra Business Woman of the Year, Wild Child’s Founder and CEO, Leanne Preston all share many powerful attributes – they’re highly successful and respected business people, their lives are all impacted by asthma and all three presented at the Asthma Foundation’s recent Community Partnerships Breakfast on 12th June 2008 at the magnificent Government House Ballroom.

Guests at the breakfast not only heard from the three highly influential business people about their respective endeavours; they were also part of the exclusive launch of the Putt Away Asthma campaign – a corporate putting competition designed to engage workplaces in a team putting competition, whilst raising funds for the Asthma Foundation of WA (see above).

Three highly sought after experiences were also auctioned at the breakfast including a scenic helicopter ride for three to The Cut in Port Bouvard for 18 holes of golf against Aussie Test Cricket legend Geoff Marsh and his asthma team; The Asthma Backyard Cricket Test, where by the winning bidder will create two teams of 7, to be captained by Australian cricket stars, Brad Hogg and Adam Gilchrist, for a private afternoon cricket test; and an exotic holiday for two staying at Moonlight Bay Suites in Broome!

All proceeds made from the Have a Ball Doing Business, Community Partnerships Breakfast will go directly to the Asthma Foundation services and the funding of asthma research.

The Asthma Foundation of WA would like to thank the community for their support of the Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma, which took place on March 16th 2008. The iconic bike ride attracted over 7,000 participants, who collectively contributed over $60,000, in registrations and fundraising, for the 220,000+ Western Australians who are diagnosed with asthma.

The annual bike ride is the only one of its kind in Perth , and involved a record number of cyclists and families this year, that raced past the Joondalup finish line. New to the bike route this year was a 60km leg along the freeway from Kwinana and Joondalup, and an impressive 2,276 competitive cyclists tackled this leg.

With all of the event donations in and all tallied up, the top Bike Hike for Asthma fundraisers are now starting to receive their special giveaways. We would like to thank you all for your outstanding fundraising efforts! Special thanks also go out to Polar Optics Australia and the Good Guys Joondalup for supporting the Asthma Foundation of WA.
