The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) has issued a smoke alert for the Greenbushes town site and parts of South Western Highway as a result of a fire that started overnight about 800km east of the town. Smoke may be visible today in surrounding areas.

The Asthma Foundation WA advises those in the area who have asthma or respiratory problems to be vigilant and carry their reliever medication with them at all times.

If you need to drive through areas with smoke, ensure your car's air conditioning is set to recycle.
